The Work of a Collection
“From 1969 to the present I have had the pleasure of collecting the artworks of regional and national artists. I had the good fortune of knowing and working with many of them at The George Ciscle Gallery, The Contemporary and MICA. Hopefully, this website will introduce these artists to new audiences by providing links (below) and promoting their creative practice to others.
I donated 53 works from this collection for an online auction 10/30/23 which raised close to $10,000 to support the Curatorial Practice Scholarship ”
Baltimore Collects: George Ciscle
By Peter Bruun
When I first approached George Ciscle about exhibiting his art collection, I never expected to be in the position of curator. I imagined he and I would discuss the collection, reach agreement about its character, and decide together what to exhibit. Right away, however, he said he wanted me to curate the show. I agreed to do so, but still did not consider the significance of my personal perspective. Only after the selection process, upon reflecting on the artwork I chose to display, did the importance of my point of view become clear.
